Job Description

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics.
  • At least 6 months of experience in MRI research
  • Strong verbal and written and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using SolidWorks software to design MRI system components
  • Experience writing computer programs in Python
  • Experience performing computer simulations of MRI pulse sequences

The Garwood lab develops MRI hardware, image acquisition methods, and novel image reconstruction algorithms to relax the need for highly uniform magnetic field to conduct MRI scanning, and by doing so, to enable next generation MRI scanners to be far less expensive, ultracompact, and transportable. A graduate student with a physics background is needed to perform software-assisted design of system components, write and apply computer programs capable of simulating MRI pulse sequences, and to collect and analyze MRI data.

Work Arrangement: The position is expected to work primarily on-site. Your work location will be CMRR.
Work Schedule: 8 hrs/day, Monday-Friday

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize MRI hardware tailored for compact magnets with highly nonuniform magnetic fields
  • Using computer simulation, adapt MRI pulse sequences to address field inhomogeneity
  • Perform experimental validations and assess performance enhancements
  • Perform analyses of experimentally acquired MRI data and images
  • Present research findings when requested in weekly lab meetings and at scientific conferences
  • Assist in preparing reports, including preparing figures and tables, and writing of manuscripts for publication
